useStep

Requirements

• Export useStep(maxStep, initialStep = 1) as a named and default React hook. Return { currentStep, canGoToNextStep, canGoToPrevStep, goToNextStep, goToPrevStep, setStep, reset }. Methods return void.
• Steps are 1-based. maxStep must be a positive integer on every render. The mount-time initialStep must be an integer in [1, maxStep]. Throw RangeError for invalid configuration. Later initialStep changes are ignored.
• goToNextStep() increments by one without exceeding maxStep. goToPrevStep() decrements by one without going below 1. Navigation at a boundary is a no-op.
• setStep(next) selects an integer in [1, latest maxStep]; otherwise it throws RangeError and leaves state unchanged. It accepts a number, not an updater.
• canGoToNextStep is currentStep < maxStep and canGoToPrevStep is currentStep > 1. Flags always reflect the currently rendered step and limit.
• When maxStep decreases below the current step, clamp to the new maximum. Increasing it later must not resurrect a previously clamped step. reset() restores the mount-time initialStep, clamped to the current maximum.
• Keep all four method identities stable, including when the limit changes. Previously captured methods must use the latest committed limit and pending state; batched navigation calls apply in order.
• Use real React state. Each instance is independent and must behave correctly under Strict Mode. In TypeScript return a typed UseStepResult with numbers, booleans, and the four method signatures.

Examples

Input: useStep(3)
Output: currentStep is 1; previous is disabled and next is available.

Input: goToNextStep() twice, then goToNextStep() again
Output: Stays at step 3, with next disabled.

Input: At step 4, change maxStep from 5 to 2
Output: Clamps to step 2; increasing the limit does not restore step 4.
